Headquartered in Wareham, MA, the company employs over 100 medical coders and other personnel that take a medical bill from coding and verifying to posting payments and performing collections on behalf of clients. Client processes more then 7 million claims annually, and receives and archives more than 70.000 pieces of paper per week.
The Challenge
the medical industry still relies heavily on paper to conduct its business. With many different regulations such as HIPAA and SOX in place in order to protect sensitive data, adhering to the guidelines while running an effective business is a challenge. For years, Client relied on a non-robust, proprietary system for its document management needs. Employees were unhappy because of its poor performance, IT was challenged because of difficulties with upgrades, backups and security, and business leaders felt that moving to another platform could save the company money.
The Solution
StratusPointIT introduced Laserfiche document management platform to Client. The solution featured on open architecture for easy backup and recovery using standard software, web-enabled technologies, Workflow management for automation of common tasks, and automatic, rules based file and image imports that reduced the manual labor required to import over 70.000 paper and 10.000 electronic images per week. Laserfiche was also able to work with all of the current scanners and other hardware that Client already owned. As an added bonus, Laserfiche’s Total Cost of Ownership was about 30% less then the current document management system.
